Utsira is surrounded by sea, and traditionally the sea has accounted for a significant part of the value creation on Utsira. The world's first wind and hydrogen plant was also located at Utsira. The wind turbines at Utsira were part of the exciting hydrogen investment from Norsk Hydro at the beginning of the 2000s. Norsk Hydro installed the turbines in 2003 together with a hydrogen plant to supply 10 houses on the island only with energy from wind power.
This competitive advantage will be further refined and used in new areas and in new industries both on land and at sea.
