Aquaculture at sea

The waters around Utsira have very good conditions for fish, including very good water flow and suitable sea temperature for salmon.

The demand for seafood is growing in the world. Nevertheless, Norwegian production of farmed salmon has stagnated in recent years. This is due to a certain extent to the fact that the fjords' production capacity for farmed salmon is almost saturated. There is a need for new technology that can expand the area for farming in both Norway and the rest of the world.

Utsira has huge sea areas with varying degrees of exposure, suitable depth and temperature and a strong commitment to focus on farming and is therefore ideal aquaculture at sea.
