Wind power

The wind turbines at Utsira were part of the exciting hydrogen investment from Norsk Hydro at the beginning of the 2000s.

The wind turbines at Utsira are of the type Enercon E-40. Generator power is 600 kW, but currently the plant is running with somewhat reduced power, as the grid is weak on Utsira. When the project functioned as a pilot project, only one mill was connected to the grid. The grid connection is laid along the road and enters the 22 kV station at Austrheim.

The wind conditions at Utsira are very good and the plant achieves an average production of 3.5 GWh, and thus around 3,500 operating hours a year. The location of the turbines is very close to the sea, but after 11 years of operation, the wind turbines are still in good condition. In connection with the planned project Utsira II, the wind turbines are planned to be replaced.
